It’s been a year of eminent weddings that just didn’t leave your Instagram colorless. By the time you could get over one, the other was here to engulf you all over again. It wouldn’t be wrong if we call this “The year of royal weddings.” It all began back in December 2017, when ‘Virushka‘ (Virat and Anushka) won hearts with a simple and elegant wedding that was kept low-key, watching her walk down the aisle whilst her very own song, ‘Din shagna da’ that played in the background was a treat to watch. Nonetheless, this rampant chain of surprises went on for a year and has now taken a halt, with the international couple ‘Nickyanka‘ (Nick and Priyanka). Although this isn’t about the brides like the usual, it’s about the dapper grooms who we couldn’t take our eyes off!
#1: Virat Kohli
All of Kohli‘s outfits were designed by Sabyasachi, they made it pretty obvious with a post on Instagram that eventually ended in wishing the couple a lifetime of happiness. From the wedding in Italy to the reception in Bombay, all of it was handled by Sabyasachi. For the mehendi, Virat opted for a khadi kurta churidaar with fuchsia pink textured silk Nehru jacket detailed with the Sabyasachi House blazer buttons. A custom tan leather jutti with a zardosi crest was created for the ensemble. Virat stuck to his gentlemen side and went ahead with a blue suit that did the job for his lady. He melted our hearts with an ivory raw silk sherwani hand embroidered in a vintage benarasi pattern and signature house buttons with an old rose silk Kota safa for the wedding. Kohli had a very royal look for the reception with a bandhgala, that was buttoned with 18K gold, styled with mojris and hand embroidered Pashmina shawl from Sabyasachi‘s Kashmir revival collection.
#2: Anand Ahuja
Anand Ahuja wore a muted gold sherwani, two maalas, a pagadi and carried a sword. It suited best for the Sikh wedding as it served as a ritual for every groom to carry a sword. Unlike the other Bollywood celebrities, Anand liked to keep it personal. All the hullabaloo was about Sonam and her outfits. although the designer for Anand was Raghuvendra Rathore who was also a co-designer for Fawad Khan in Khoobsurat which was a creation by Sonam’s sister Rhea Kapoor.
#3: Ranveer Singh
Who wasn’t anticipating what Ranveer Singh would wear for his wedding? Unlike any other, their series of pictures kept releasing on intervals, it was a delight to watch him stagger the fans with the more than just fancy outfits, Ranveer‘s outfits were designed by Sabyasachi, it became pretty official when they wore it for every function, be it the two kinds of weddings that the couple had, the Bangalore reception, the Bombay reception, the after-party as well! Ranveer‘s personality popped out through his clothes, they spoke volumes of him and the kind of star and person he is. He also broke the stereotype of how men need not be always wearing a kurta and chuddidar. He brought back the kinda style men had.
The couple was dressed in Sabyasachi from head to toe, Ranveer was in a traditional south Indian attire with an ivory and gold veshti, kurta and angavastram, with it he also wore a mundavalya.
The Mehendi ceremony had the couple wear pink and red outfits which were a creation of Sabyasachi as well. Ranveer chose to be quirky and hence took on a cotton angrakha and a silk Bundi.
For the Sindhi wedding or the Anand Karaj ceremony, Ranveer, so effortlessly pulled off a red kanjeevaram sherwani that shined with delicate golden threadwork by Sabyasachi. He decided to have a lot of accessories as well, which included a layered mala of red beads and a kundan neckpiece. He had a red and gold safa and a heavy red stole dupatta that has a lot of zari work embellishments. He looked no less than a price.
The Bengaluru reception had Ranveer looking dapper in a massively heavy embroidered black and gold kurta by Rohit Bal, he wore shoes that went with the look. Although for the Mumbai reception, the colors changed to white and gold. While Deepika chose to wear Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla, Ranveer wore Rohit Bal couture creation of the same color. He wore a sherwani with an angrakha and covered it with an embroidered dupatta and jutties came in handy!
In the end, for the Mumbai wedding party, Ranveer wore a uniquely designed outfit by Manish Arora, that has colors like pink, silver, black, blue out altogether with lights attached, jewelry that went stupendously well with the outfit.
It wouldn’t be incorrect if we call the Ranveer-Deepika wedding a season, It literally made us drop our jaws in wonder and admiration.
#4: Nick Jonas
For this international wedding as we’d like to call it, Umaid Bhavan Palace looked no less than a castle of our dreams, the couple, Nick and Priyanka has two ceremonies, a Christian wedding, and a Hindu wedding, that equally represented where they both come from and had a joyous amalgamation of colors.
The celebration began with a mehendi ceremony where the couple wore Khosla and Jani. Nick wore a long cotton Bakhiya kurta.
During the Sangeet, the couple wore the very same designer, wherein Nick wore a dark blue sherwani made with silk-tread details, sources from the press release from Khosla Jani. Let’s not forget the couple met for the first time at the Met Gala, where they both wore Ralph Lauren, which makes it more obvious and self-explanatory that Ralph Lauren designed their wedding outfits which happen like, never. Ralph has only designed wedding dresses thrice and hence this becomes all the more special.
For their Hindu wedding, the couple wore, Sabyasachi and all of it was custom made, Jonas wore a gold, hand-quilted sherwani made out of silk with an embroidered chikan dupatta and a chanderi tissue safa, with it came a diamond necklace from the designer’s heritage jewelry collection. Shoes by Christian Louboutin sealed the looked.
For their reception, Nick wore a suit with a blue jacket and a bow tie. The coming together of two great designers from two different parts of the world was witnessed in this regal wedding. What more could we ask for?
